Interfacing a PC to a Sonar unit

Post by bdickens »

I've got a PC on my boat for navigation and for the underwater camera. I recently decided to replace my sonar unit and was a bit disappointed in the feature/price set. Lot of money.

Does anyone know of either a way to interface a standard sonar transducer to a PC or, any PC products that do so ? My electronics background is weak, but I've got time.

Thanks

Maybe your sound card would do it. Find out what frequency your transducer wants and send a ping. Start counting and wait for a return signal on the microphone. You will need matching transformers for both. Maybe the other guys can help with that.
Sounds like a good idea. Good luck.
