DC motors on a robot
I am building a robot and i need to know whether or not DC motors are really any good for a robot. The robot will go into battle so what do you think? [email protected]

Re: DC motors on a robot
Do you mean DC motors versus AC motors, or one type of DC motor versus another type?

Unless u want to complicate the electronics of ur "robot" (u really mean remote control car I fink) or have a cable connecting it 2 the mains supply ull find DC motors a much better option. As 2 which DC motor well that depend on the wieght power ting!
B)

There are only a few ways to get motion from a robot.
1)Pneumatic- Not enough Stamina, Could be fast though.
2)Hydraulic- To Slow, Could be very powerfull.
3)Gas Motor- Not reliable, but could be fast and powerfull.
4)AC Motor- Most AC motors have very little torque. Installing inverters with it would be a pain, unless you plan to run an extension cord.
5)DC Motor- Reliable, you can get high torque and high speeds out of them. And best of all, you would not have to worry about your extension cord being chopped off and you losing he battle.
Have fun and Good Luck with your Project.
[ April 29, 2004: Message edited by: enc ]
[ April 29, 2004: Message edited by: enc ]
