12v to 6v converters for automotive analog gauges
12v to 6v converters for automotive analog gauges
I would like to know a few sites that would be helpful in a design of the above mentioned converter.

A simple linear regulator would work pretty well unless you want a bipolar supply. google for linear voltage regulators. lots of info. national has a good document on the fundamentals. Get an extended temp version as it can get pretty hot in a car.

If you change the operating voltage of a gauge (or substitute one that was designed for half the voltage), you would also need to scale its input by 1/2 so that all readings are not off scale.
You can either get 6V sending units (sensors) and 6V gagues and power them both from the same 12V to 6V regulated supply or you can keep the 12V sending units and use some sort of op-amp pre-scaler circuit to bring the input down to the proper range. You would probably need to design a different prescaler for each instrument because input signals vary from one kind of gauge to the next.
What are you really trying to do?
