Amel Substitution

Post by foroham »

I am working on a project which requires an Atmel AT90S2313-10PC. This IC is no longer in production and hard to find. I have found a source for the AT90S2313-10PI-10Mhz. Will the software code work for this IC without modification?

According to the Atmel AT09S2313 data sheet, both parts are 10 Mhz parts in a 20 pin DIP package. The AT90S2313-10PC is a commercial temperature range part (0 to 70 centigrade). The AT90S2313-10PI is an industrial part (-40 to 86 centigrade). Except for the temperature range, both parts appear to be identical, and should be capable of operating with the same software.

Thanks for the advise. I will check the link and, since I went ahead and placed my order, I'll know sometime next week if the 2 ICs are compatible. My results will be posted here. Thanks again...

Atmel Customer Support was kind enough to direct me to the specific doc which explains the differences between the AT90S2313 and ATtiny2313. "Replacing AT90S2313 by ATtiny2313". This and all of their other application docs can be found at http://atmel.com/products/AVR/.
Thanks for your help!

I was going to warn you about that!

You can swap the AT90S parts because like someone else said, it's just a temperature range difference, but switching from an AT90S2313 to a Tiny2313 must be done carefully. It's not hard, but it may require changing the code as Atmel has made some upgrades to the chip and a few things don't work exactly the same. The document they referred you to is very good. This is a common problem, so there is lots of help on the net.
