Jacob's Ladder

I believe there was an article about building a Jacob's Ladder in Nuts&Volts, but I don't know which issue. It must be before 2004 (you can only search back to 2004 online).

Does anyone know which issue it was, or even built it?

hi there,,jacobs ladders are very simple to build.
just google it..theres lots of links on how to build your own.
i have made lots of them,, and all you need is a neon transformer
use the old type that are heavy..the newer electronic ones are not good to use,as they have so much fault shut down circuits in them.

BUT DO BE CAREFUL, TRANSFORMERS CAN DEVELOP ANYWHERE FROM
2,000 VOLTS UP TO 15,000 VOLTS AND AS MUCH AS 30 MA. !
A SHOCK CAN KNOCK YOU ACROSS THE ROOM

but building one is simple..basically the arc starts at a small gap of the 2 wires the stiff wire "V" and the heat from the are makes it rise to the top where it will blow out. you have to adjust the gap at the top so the arc will fail..also you want to have a case around it for safety, and also to keep the breeze from making it not work right..
