Need help recommending a power FET

Post by abux »

I am trying to repair my porter-cable cordless drill. I took it apart and found the power FET burnt (black marks). I looked on the Mfg site and only got the wiring diagram. The diagram has the FET, motor, and switch and that's all. No part number for the FET (at least it called itself a FET). I think the switch opertates and variable resister to the gate.

So I am asking for a part number for a good general replacement. It's a TO-220 case, an N-channel( I think). The battery is 14.4V and 2A so anything over that should be good. I was thinking 30V and 5A. Thanks.

Hi.
Some computer power supplies have power transistors in the primary switching side (2SD...); some have power mosfets (K...)
Try canibalizing one of the latter from a old power supply. It should be good for the current and more than good for the voltage rating.
