Java Stamps

Is there a large shift towards using java based stamp boards? I am relatively new to robotics, and I am wondering if I should start with the reliable and well-supported BASIC stamps or learn the Java way?<p>thanx

I would not use either language on a microcontroller. Assembler is short and easy on all of them, making it easy to learn. You avoid another layer of trouble.
