Polar Heart rate monitor hack

Has anyone hacked the audio code on Polar heart rate monitors or have any ideas on how to do it? I'm thinking something that uses PIC basic. They use a audio tone signal and your sound card mic input to uplink data. Their new product can only be uplinked to their website for viewing data and it would be nice to have the choice of keeping it local or using their site.
