Memory Sticks

I am looking to program a micro to collect data. After the data is collected it would be nice to write it to a larger memory source like a Sony memory stick or SD card (these are great because of the small size). The problem is, I'm not sure how to interface my micro to these sticks. Has anyone done this before or have any ideas how to do it?
