Howdy,
At my local junk dealer, there is a "TV pattern generator" on sale for a whopping $8. What does a TV pattern generator do, and is it worth $8?<p>Can I modify it to do other things? Please respond soon, because this weekend is a half-off clearance sale, so it might not be there later.

Thanks

A pattern genetator puts test patterns on a color tv screen for color tuning. Early color tv's had a panel of tuning coils to balance the colors across the screen. Fortunatly those days are gone. I can't think of much use for it now.

Some of the new TV's still have rough convergence adjustments, but not as complicated as older sets. Now most are done on the yolk and magnets on the neck of the picture tube making the need for most pattern generators obselete. Still, you will occasionally find a set thats in need of a "touch up" , but not usually needing a generator.
