Thirty plus years ago I restored a vintage RCA Model R-4 radio.
After all those years I decided, with crossed fingers to fire it up. With a piece of wire for an antenna and throwing caution to the wind, I fired it up.
Well the gloom set in when it did not play any of the 'old time stations' Only new music which doesn't seem proper!
Inside was a long forgotten envelope that had several schematics for the radio plus a handwritten letter, dated 1980 from a radio buff in Berne Switzerland. He was responding to my request published In the legendary Popular Electronics, for information. Included was a drawing with notes for improving performance.
I then went online and found the drawings, photographs and other information in less than a half minute.
Guess nothing has changed...... Has it?
