WHY MUST IT BE SO HARD TO FIND STUFF !

Post by dacflyer »

been looking for 2 days now in google.. trying to find
high power led flood lights that operate on 12 volts DC, in the 30 watt range..
i see many offerings in china, but their sites are so confusing, and many times i find it is in the 240 volt range etc.
i am wanting a few of these for solar yard lighting.

here is an example of what i search for in design..
http://www.ledlightsworld.com/30w-outdo ... p-235.html
but its not in a 12 volt package. configuration. ( 86-265 volts AC )

Because you are using Google! Try Yahoo! Search instead. It took, like, 2 seconds or so...

The OnSolar (UK) site sells them, but they are out of stock at the moment.

Keep looking. I'm sure you'll find more.

?Something like:
http://www.lsgc.com/dmdocuments/LSG_039 ... 0apr11.pdf

digikey | Resources | Lighting Solutions | LEDs
got list of manufacturers
picked one, used google on manufacturer's name to get URL

Agree that google as first step comes back with too many hits. That very page MAY have been in your google results, but maybe on page 50, who goes that deep.

Other places to look are Mouser, Newark, McMaster ...

Cheers,

thanks for the link. but i am searching for a outdoor led flood light for a solar application.
and at 12volt use. as i said i can find 10 and 20 watt versions, but its seeming almost impossible to find the 30 watt version. found 1 30watt version, but they want you to buy a min of 200 units.
i just need 2 for now.

Alas the LED market is still a bit short of maturity. In a few years we'll all be here compaining of various quality problems from the by then plentyful offerings. Demand for higher ouitput LEDs seems to be very high right now and supply has not quite caught up. I suspect the LEDs themselves are still being scoffed up by streetlight and industrial manufacturers.

BTW, we need to stop thinking in terms of Watts and start talking in Lumens.

How much do they cost in QTY 1 vs. Qty 200? Might be a dandy eBay store item.

i thought bout buying and starting a ebay store, but i cannot afford that many right now.
the ones i looked at, appear to have the bridgelux leds in them.
apon closer looking, you can see that a single unit (led engine) has many 1 watt leds
example a 30watt led has 30 dies, 50=50 dies etc, i have seen 100 watt units as well..
i do not advise anyone looking into that one..i bet its brighter than a carbon arc search light..lol
alas, i am still waiting for a reply from a source in.....of course CHINA :(
the shipping is almost as much as the light.
the dealer quoted me less than 200.00 for 2 lights and shipping. for 12/24volt dc 30 watt light.
i'll keep ya posted.

Here's one of the 30 watt dies:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1-PC-30W-WATT-STAR- ... 5192db458c
Odd voltage however: 14-16 VDC.
You'll get reduced output from a solid 12 volt source.
Are you up to building your own enclosure/heat sink?

Try looking for CAR FLOOD LED. I found a bunch of them. Other terms to use (in place of car) is RV, boat, tractor, (and so on).

One model is BL-FL10WM which looks similar to what you are after (and is a tractor/boat/auto version running on 12 or 24V). A site with a number of models is this one:

http://www.briteledtech.com/led_work_lites.html

Not in the US but in English.

If you want to stay in the USA try Super Bright LEDS. These guys even have TV ads!

http://www.superbrightleds.com

From the home page find the "truck, trailer, & strobe" section; then the "truck lights". The last link in the "LINK" section will be "high powered spot light." Not exactly what you have posted but maybe this will work.

I bought modules to go in desk lights and find eBay is your best price bet; even when ordering from China direct.

i do not really have the time to build my own fixture, although i have seen kits that have a dc-dc power supply, heat sink etc. you just have to use a suitable fixture.

ok, update time here, i got my fixture in today, all i can say is WOW !

the fixture is about as big as a 500 watt quarts light fixture.
i chose the natural white led, around the 4100K color. they do carry the brighter white and warm white color also.

anyway i just fired this thing up ( WARNING do not have it pointed twards you ! ) its brighter than a welding arc!
it lit the room up as if i had a 400 watt metal halide on. seems like it anyway. :O
it is a 30 watt bridgelux led unit and claims 2,250 lumens with a 130 degree beam :D

this fixture was bigger than i thought. i was expecting it to be the size of a mini quarts fixture.

feel free to give your comments or questions.:D if this is as good as i think it will be, i'll order more..
the price is steep right now, i paid about $157.00 for 1 unit.. hopefully in the future they will be more affordable..

ok, night time test.
i took it outside a while ago to see how it compares with other lights i have.
this light easily compares to a 175 watt soft white mercury yard light, and the
same with my 65 watt fluorescent yard light.. and it all only uses 30 watts of power.
i am more than surprised at the performance of this light. i give it 2 thumbs up. ;)

Hi there dac,

Can we get a link to that light so we can take a look too? I'd like to see what this looks like. Maybe get one in the future.
I got a much much cheaper 'bulb' replacement from Deal Extreme and it's not too bad, but i'd say it's only the equivalent of about a 20 watt bulb...not much but it screws into a regular lamp and it does work close up.
LEDs vs Bulbs, LEDs are winning.
