I like Avast! a lot. It's easy and free.

Edit: Realize it was spam, but don't see a delete optrion.

Or stop unlocking your iphone. If it's locked, you won't get the spam...

Better yet, stop sending spam. You might actually get an answer if you do.

Hmm......
I've been using Avast! since the first version of Win98.
But I've gone through several program upgrades.
I'm currently using home version 4.8, with XP SP3.

Well...
The question is at least a good topical one. :)
But shouldn't this be moved to the computer section, since it is computer related?

Yeah,
There have been some ice storms that came through.
But now it's #*$@ cold! {-15F this morning!}

I have been using CA Antivirus for several years. I currently use it on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. I don't know if they still support Win98, though. CA Antivirus isn't free, and their customer support is abysmal. But what I like about them is: (a) the program is less invasive than other antivirus programs I've used over the years (free and not free), (b) CA seems to report fewer false positives, even when heuristic scanning is enabled, and (c) I've seen CA successfully detect and clean up some nasty infections. My consulting clients have used CA as well, and have been generally happy with the results. However, if "free" is important, then Avast would be at the top of my list.

Aside - I don't recommend running Win98 any more. Microsoft hasn't released a security patch for it in several years, so even if you run a great antivirus program, there are security holes in the operating system that will never get patched. Windows XP (with Service Pack 3) is fine, but starting in April 2014, XP will no longer receive security patches either. So, XP still has four good years left in it. - end of aside.

If you're running a Win98SE engine, I don't see why the database upgrades wouldn't work for the Avast, AVG, etc. free-for-personal-use
antivirus programs. There's no $$ motivation to make them incompatible, and I can't think of a good software reason.

well i know avg will not work with the 98se engine anymore. thats why i had to search for something else... if you know of a way to make it work,, then your the cool one :D

Nope, don't know how to make it make work. I guess AVG thought of the good software reason. My Win98SE computer is
only on a home LAN so I don't think I have an active antivirus on it, but it is an interesting dilemma for Win98SE "orphans".

Addendum:
"ClamWin is a Free Antivirus program for Microsoft Windows 7 / Vista / XP / Me / 2000 / 98 and Windows Server 2008 and 2003."
Looks like this open source engine is worth a try for legacy OS's.
