I have way to many items on my start up menu. However, I am having a hard time trying to eliminate the unwanted ones. I go to Start>run?msconfig and let it load. I click on Startup and get a list of the items. I uncheck those I want to eliminate. However, I do not get the typical (as shown in the books) choices down at the bottom. There should be four items that you can choose from at the bottom of the list; OK Cancel Apply Help
But, the OK button is not there. I suspect that this has something to do with having administrative authority. However, since this was a self installed system from CD, I never took any steps to have a password and thought that I'd have administrative authority. Any suggestions as to what I have to do to make these changes?
Removeing items from start up menu
Re: Removeing items from start up menu
Hi there,
Here is something to try. Go to your folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
where "USERNAME" is the name you use to log on with.
Look for the program names you want to remove, and delete them.
Sometimes they are shortcuts and sometimes actual programs with .exe ending.
You probably also have to check the folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
and possible other folders too that contain a sub folder named "Startup" as you see at the end
of both of the folders shown here.

Re: Removeing items from start up menu
A quick way to get here is to right click on the start button and choose Explore. Once you get there, you may find some things in the "All users" start menu as well as your own.C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
