It depends on the item.

A Plasma TV or Projection TV or even LCD TV would be something you want extended warranty.
Repair costs on these items can go over the actual cost of the Television easily.

Get the extended warranty.

But, things like Clock Radios, and Computers are not.
The Clock Radio isn't going to see hard use, and will most likely last for years.

The computer will have 1 or more years warranty on them from the manufacturer.
And the components inside it may have a manufacturers own warranty on them.{The Hard Drive, Video Card}
But since people end up replacing their computers every two or three years.
Getting an extended warranty would be foolish.
