Hmm, not sure now that you mention that, i just know it was a cap..4.7uF - 450 volt. simmilar to what you find in a ceiling fan.

I think MrAl has it right Dac. That 4.7 cap in your ceiling fan could very well be for speed control only. All my fans use three of these ranging from 2 to 10 MFD in value. only one value at a time is switched in to control speed. They look like giant versions of the MLC ceramics that we all use.

Interesting but not impossible.
A. Radio control model use 3 phase brushless D.C. motors some use upwards of 60 volts,
use one these controllers would probably work.
B. Machine tool suppliers often use 3 phase motors, some use rotary converters, others
especially small H.P. use solid state converters, Brand name escapes me at present.
C. Design your own driver using a 3 phase bridge, minimum 6 Power devices I.E. tansistors
with suitable voltage and current ratings, driven by oscillator and divider circuit.
Hope this helps.

You can make three phase 117VAC
you can use a 4017 and diode mixer or opamps to make a 3 phase signal.
rectify the 117VAC feed the signal to appropriate transistors.

The reason you don't see too many of these converters is a big 3 phase
motor needs to be in phase with 60 hertz vac

It has been proven that 3 phase can be more efficient when resonant.
