Help with Microsoft word 2000
I need help with a issue with microsoft word 2000
I am not sure what has happened lately, but whenever I try to save a new document. I get the message saying that "(file name) already exist."
and that it is a read only file..
Anyone got any ideas what is going on and how i can fix this issue ? I've found nothing with my virus blocker or malware. so i do not know if something sneaky got in or what. nothing else seems to be effected.. I'm running "Windows 7 home pro."

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
That was no help... I don't have files already named the same as i am trying to same..
even if i cancel saving, it'll save a blank file with the name i rejected.
if i save it anyway, it'll go in a loop of already existing ,everytime i click save.... example1 , example2 , example3 etc.
i might try to totally remove word, then reinstall..
stay tuned.

Hmmm.......................
Here's something about troubleshooting Word.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office ... r-use-word
Or check out the "Word Help Center".

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
That is not normal behavior. Even if you have an existing file, the popup would be the Overwrite/Replace question.
Have there been updates or have you had to log-in just before this started? Is it possible that Word was installed as Administrator only and you are not on the Administrator account? Is it possible this is a newer version that is running in Trial mode?
Check to see if the default file association for .doc or .docx is set to the correct version.
Word may be corrupted and you may need to uninstall and reinstall to fix.

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
i am still having issues with this program..
i uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled, restarted...
i tried to make a test file, and when i select "save as" it still gives me the window that says the file already exist..WTF...
how can i fix this ? any ideas ? is there some setting somewhere i can check ?
If i select yes, then the same thing happens again,,it's like going in a loop.. if i select cancel, then i comes back.. i can only select NO, to close it..

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
I suggest that "this is a test" already exists IN THAT FOLDER. Try another folder.
Also, that the file is read-only; so "... replace …" and "Yes" can't work. Try another name.
Also a possibility the folder is read-only, or you're trying save in Word's program folder.
Cheers,
added - the file is opened and "locked" by another program (maybe even another instance of Word).

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
there isn't another file name like that,, no matter what file name i use, it'll say that file already exist..
My File - My file already exist
Ray's notes - Ray's notes already exist etc. etc.
I'll try another folder.. but i keep everything in "MY DOCUMENTS" folder
What do i change so that it isn't a READ ONLY file ? How and you tell that is a READ ONLY ?
what do you mean by, replace …" and "Yes" can't work. Try another name. as for the ...
that's just habit of mine. the file names don't have any periods.
thanks,, i'll let you know when i get home.

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
First 3 dots stand for "Do you want to". The second 3 dots for "the existing file?" Rather than retyping the entire sentence from the message box you posted image of.
In File Explorer (or Windows Explorer in older Windows), right click on file name or folder name, click Properties, Read only is a check box near bottom.
Cheers,

Re: Help with Microsoft word 2000
You need a newer version of Office, there's compatibility issues. Check out Nerdused, they have lifetime license at a good price.
