Need help searching for magnets..

Post by dacflyer »

Like the song goes,, I BEEN SEARCHIN..
The hub motor i been working on for a while now has thrown another kink in my works.
Apparently Someone else has replaced the magnets before and used the wrong ones.. That's probably why the darn things never did get fixed.
So earlier I looked for the right glue to adhere the current magnets in place.. things went well, I assembled the motor only to discover it would only jump once in a while, wouldn't do right or spin at all. just kick once in a while.. I did further testing, only to figure out i need wider magnets. Current ones are 1.5" wide.. they aren't wide enough to trigger the hall sensors to make the motor run.. I had made me a hall detector and it wasn't good. Only way to fix this mess is with wider magnets..
Can anyone help me find what i need ? I need 2" x 3/4" x 1/8 N42 type.. I did find N52, but can't use them, because they are too sensitive to heat..N42 are better made for heat like motors.
any help is appreciated.... I need 35 of them..3 for spares, just incase..
Thanks...

I found this company: Indigo Instruments
https://www.indigoinstruments.com/magne ... th/blocks/
Only they are using the Metric Standard.
So you'll need to remeasure the magnet in Millimeters to find the right size.

Hmmm...............

The page I linked to only shows magnets up to 2" X 1/8 X 1/8.
Try contacting them, and see if they might carry the size you need.

E-mail: [email protected]
Phone: (519) 746-4761

Here's another one I found: Total Element
https://totalelement.com/collections/bl ... rade_N42SH
The page I linked to only shows magnets up to 2" X 1/2 X 1/16.
Try contacting them, and see if they might carry the size you need.

Here's They're contact page: https://totalelement.com/pages/contact

Edit:
Hmmm.........
I've checked several companies that are selling N42 Grade Magnets on Amazon, E-Bay, and other Websites.
The dimensions you listed are VERY HARD TO FIND.
I came across some, that may work, but they are listed in Millimeters.

Just on the off hand chance, have you tried to contact the company that built the motor?
Or is it so old, that parts are no longer available?

Theres no info on the motor and the company that made the machine is out of business. ( Xtreme Green PMV ) PMV = police Mobility Vehicle.
The motor mounts on a set of front forks and and there is a 4 lug wheel that attaches to the hub motor,,quite odd.. If i was able to, i'd be willing to find a all in 1 motor wheel.. but i haven't been able to find a motor that is wide enough for the forks.. theres 10" between the forks, and the outside of the wheel is 18" 48v, and i think it is a 3kw motor, but not 100% sure.. just what i think i read here and there.
I have tried to look for the magnets in mm.. But had less luck.
I may have bought a Cat in a bag..I mainly bought it for the battery pack, but in the end, the guy gave me the whole thing..

Here is what it looks like..Kinda neat.. not the one i have, but same model.

Okay, that helps, kinda.

Go find a E-Bike, or Electric Bike dealer.
See if they have a service dept.
Show the mechanic's the Electric Hub Motor you have.
Maybe they could retro-fit one of the newer Hub Motors to fit your trike.

Scrap it! From video you linked it looks like a Benny Hill prop. A 100 year old man with one leg gets away by walking while police chase him using those things. Junk brand new.

I did some more web searching, and found LOT"S of "Electrify Bicycle Kits" on E-bay.
Some wheel sizes I found ranged from 20" to 27", Though you may find something smaller.
Starting at 24V 350W to 72V 1500W.
Prices very; Under $100.00 to $1000.00 for the High Wattage Kits.

Doing a Google Search turned up Kit's even from Walmart!

So, I suggest you check the front wheel size of your trike, and find a kit that closely matches it.
Make some modifications to the front fork, so it accepts the new size hub motor wheel and tire.

EDIT:
I started pricing some of the QS Motors, and the cheapest runs around $1000.00

Back to the replacement magnets........
Here's some 1" x 3/4" x 1/8" Magnets.
https://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail. ... gKS8PD_BwE
Could you possibly place the two 1" x 3/4" x 1/8" Magnets together, to get the 2" you need?

The front wheel is 18" OD, and about 8" wide.. like a golf cart wheel.. and 10" between the forks..
I'm wondering if i can add magnets to the current ones and get the effect i need..just need to be a bit wider to trigger the hall sensors.
I can find 1/4 x 3/4 x 1/8
I guess i could give it a shot, but I'd like other opinions..
