Hi.
Cheap and not multimeters have the Hertz reading setting.
Would like to implement a simple optical reader aiming a turning shaft with a black/white marking. Perhaps severing the optosensor half of an optocoupler, or a phototransistor, or even a tiny magnet glued to shaft, and a coil to the meter terminals, or, what would be your preferred way ? I do not want to buy a tachometer to use it once and leave it collecting dust.
To read revolutions per second on multimeter ?

Here's a video for checking the RPM of an electric motor.
