Another motor question

Post by ian »

I've seen small, compact, powerful yet brushless DC motors. What's the technology behing these babies? Anybody familiar?

The brushless dc motors I have seen are actually three phase ac motors with permanent magnet rotating field.<p>DC from a battery is changed from dc to three phase ac with an inverter. The inverter usually has variable frequency capability which permits operating the motor with variable speeds.
