Vote for new moderators

Post by gunter »

Would it be possible to elect new forum moderators? Someone who can inject new ideas into this forum and make it breathe again?

I think you have the wrong idea what moderators do.

They stop advertizers. They keep argueing members civil.

They do not suggest topics or create content (as moderators), It's more like policing, and buffering technical problems with the forum.

They are volunteers who are also members. As members they answer questions, ask questions, and post items they think may interest the rest of us.

We appreciate their efforts. (Thanks guys)

Thank you for the kind words! We appreciate it!
I know for my part as a moderator, I am primarily responsible for vetting the new forum members. I feel that getting them approved in a timely manner will help encourage them to participate once they become members.
I do post new content but it is usually in the DIY Animatronics section since that is an offshoot of the series I write for Servo.
I am making an effort to be more active but other stuff keeps getting in the way. It is unfortunate that life sometimes interferes with our hobbies!

..........Wanted..........
New moderators for the Nuts & Volts Forum
Must be willing to work for no pay.
Accept responsibility for all that does not work.
Be requested to add features not possible. (can we get a poker game)
Be expected to respond within minutes to a memember's question.
Successful applicant must bring 100 new and active members into the forum.

On a more serious note, the moderators do not make the forum, all the members do. Unfortunately there seems to be little attraction for new members, and many of the more resident members are notably absent. So, let's all reflect on this and shout out, but not so unruly that a moderator needs to step in, and voice what we feel is missing, wrong, outdated or needs to be changed. Then work on the changes if possible.

Fair enough, I don't think I composed the post as well as I would have liked. Other forums I frequent are extremely active although I am not sure why or what they are doing differently. Apologies if anyone was offended.

No offense taken.
I know I have been frustrated that the forum activity is down as well. Other forums I am on are suffering from the same problem as other platforms become popular. Many people have gravitated to Facebook. Shiny new bauble and all that. Although it has its benefits, I feel it does not fulfill our needs as well as a traditional forum.
I think we all must attempt to regularly post on the forum to stimulate activity. Ask a question, show off a project or just welcome a new member. Activity promotes more activity!
The fact that we are even having this discussion proves that there are many people that still want this to succeed. If we all participate, we can bring it back to its glory!

Well I don't know how moderators are chosen, but if we ever nominate one, I'd like to suggest C.... .....
Then again, maybe I won't! (The Senior members will know!)

No, CeaSaR, I didn't, but this comes to mind!

You know what would probably do the trick is a universal translator. When I go to the Russian forums, I spend half the time translating the content. If there was a way to type in one language have the forum software translate and then return the content in its original language that would probably open up many avenues. It would be great to go to lets say a German forum, see it all in your own language, type in English and have the software do all the real time translations.

That would probably be funny in the early stages until a database of slang could build up haha.

Some of the posts here occasionally need translation from Enklush to English!
