Gunter, I regret that you published that link! That took me too far back into the world of yesteryear for my comfort zone! In those days a novice could learn and build at the same time, and today that's not so likely. Ah yes, the wonderment of really understanding a simple circuit, making it work and then to be able to use it as a building block, all without a king's ransom in parts cost. I also saw a few suppliers in the back that are still around, but there are many that are long gone. That PDF should be the required reading for anyone seriously interested in learning the circuit craft. I have several Electronic Circuits Sourcebooks by John Marcus; they are crammed with many circuits for just about anything, from the era. They also are great stepping stones except unfortunately some of the parts, even years ago, were obscure and not readily available.
I saved the PDF you posted and from time to time, will probably still learn something.
