My 2 cents:<p>Yes, if i put my replacment set of 2500mAh AA's on the charger when they come out of the camera, then take them off as indicated. they are nearly dead about when the ones in use in the camera need replacment. <p>I have also noticed the difference between manufacturers, the current set are energizer. My previous batteries were Telepower XL, unknown ampacity, I think a bit lower. But, much longer shelf life.

A battery shouldn't self discharge because that's like making them so they don't give as much talk time.
