Coffee maker thermostat
Coffee maker thermostat
Hi, Can someone make a recommendation as to where I can purchase a P170-97 thermostat for a West Bend commercial 100 cup coffee maker?

Re: Coffee maker thermostat
I guess I should have explained that Amazon.com does not ship this to Canada; only items that are listed on Amazon.ca and the last local appliance parts and repair store closed several years ago. I found numerous vendors on google but am not familiar with any of them and am requesting if anyone knows a reputable vendor that will ship to Canada.

have you checked Sears Parts Direct?
EDIT: nevermind, they list it as no longer available

Ken1,
Have you checked Radio Shack?
Here's a catalog list of thermostat's and thermal fuses.
http://www.radioshack.com/family/index. ... Id=2032300
Unfortunately, none of the thermostat's are available in the stores.
There was a policy where you could have the item shipped to the store for easy pickup.
Don't know if they are still doing that.
Last time I order from them.
I pre-paid at the store, and the item was sent directly to my home.

Hi, Unfortunately Radio Shack no longer exists in Canada. Several years ago they sold out to Circuit City and renamed them "The Source by Circuit City".

Well, that sucks.Ken1 wrote:Hi, Unfortunately Radio Shack no longer exists in Canada. Several years ago they sold out to Circuit City and renamed them "The Source by Circuit City".
The only other thing you could try is some of the Small Appliance Repair/Parts places.
Or check Bar & Restaurant Supply Stores.
My reasoning....
Because that P170-97 thermostat seems to be a common one that several manufacturers use.
Thus, it should be possible for you to find a suitable replacement thermostat.
Or at least some other maker that uses that same thermostat.
Good luck!

Re: Coffee maker thermostat
I'll guess it turns on below 97F and off above 170F and is used to control the hotplate under the pot? (if its in C not F then it would have to be for steam) You also need one that fits the same location.
THermal fuses fail far more often than thermostats and they are usually wired in series. Make sure you're getting the right part.
While ebay did not list this exact part, they did list things under "coffee maker parts, coffee maker thermostat and bunn and other brand names and while searching west bend thermostat I found the P200-97 which should be a suitable replacement
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Westbend-Regal- ... 20c4cf411c
This auction describes it as a 320F thermostat so I guess the values in the P/N are in Celcius

Re: Coffee maker thermostat
letting the pot run out of water a lot of times will cause the failure.. especially if its a thermal fuze..
Re: Coffee maker thermostat
Hi, The coffee maker works but it only heats the coffee to lukewarm.

Re: Coffee maker thermostat
so i take it, the thermostat is cutting off too early or that thermostat opens when done brewing and letting on a warmer element.. ?
i bet the thermostat shorts the low wattage warming pad, to brew..then opens to keep coffee warm. but its too low of a wattage to keep the perk-a-lator going..

Re: Coffee maker thermostat
Ken- If you still need one, I can buy it and ship it to you. Maybe you'd want to buy two?

Dacflyer: You are correct in how the thermostat is wired up and operates.
Jwax: Thanks for the offer! Another person has graciously offered to buy ans ship one for me several days ago and I accepted that person's offer. If I ever run into the same situation needing another part of some kind not available in or shipped to Canada, I will put out an appeal.

Re: Coffee maker thermostat
HI, I just wanted to let everyone know that I received the new thermostat today and I installed it and now we have hot coffee! Thanks for everyone's reply!
Re: Coffee maker thermostat
Thank goodness! I'd be a quivering mess of a wreck without coffee for that long. LOL
Seriously though, glad to hear it's fixed. A big thumbs up to the unnamed samaritan
and to Jwax for their offers. That's what makes this such a great community.
