Resistor ID question

Post by Ken1 »

Hi, Can someone ID the resistance on a resistor with the following markings?

TRW
1478
699-1
7811

The resistor is gray in color, cylindrical in shape with slightly fatter ends and is either a 1 or 2 watt and looks like a metal film type. It's from part of the focus circuit in an RCA CTC87 tv chassis. The resistor measures open on my ohmmeter which goes up to 40 meg and there is focus voltage at the input end, but no voltage whatsoever comes out of it even when the output side is completely disconnected from the rest of the focus circuit. The resistor is part of the flyback and RCA doesn't list a part number or electrical value on the schematic.

The heavy cylindrical ends indicate a flame proof resistor. The part nos. are meaningless as they are probably house nos., but RCA should have knowledge of that. Probably any resistor associated with the high voltage sections are of a safety type for X-ray radiation. Have you tried Googling it under a variety of search words/codes?

Robert is right, that it is a safety flame proof resistor.

The numbers relate to the date it was manufactured.
Plus an in house number.

You have got a better chance of identifying it.
By looking up the television chassis number in the Sams PhotoFacts.
The PhotoFacts number is: 1778-2.
Check with your local libraries and see if they carry the PhotoFacts,
and if they have that schematic on file, you can photocopy the pages you need.
Or maybe some one here has the schematic, and can look it up.
Otherwise it's $22.00 from Sams PhotoFacts.
