PC controlled LCD

Post by Mike »

Is there a simple way to control an LCD via computer. I just need it to display words, probably no pictures. It needs to be controlled by VB5, and could connect to Serial, Parallel, USB, etc. Probably 20 X 2 or 3 lines would be good. Does anybody know of a cheap LCD than can do this?
Thanks, Mike

Any standard LCD can do this.
One of the few times when it is easier to use the full 8 bits.
There is code on the net. You can take any Basic or C or ASM code for a microcontroller of your choice and so long as you know how to manipulate bits and the parallel port in VB5.0, Bob is not only your uncle but the bees knees as well.
Colin

Scott Edwards Electronics has a very simple 2x16 LCD with serial interface.
Right out of the box you can:
A. plug it directly into your PC serial port and write words and numbers to it.
or
B. wire it to a stamp.
or
C. wire it to a micro controller.
Here is a link to the manual which has everything you need to know.
LCD with simple interface
