Dish Network VIP211 Remote Control Extender

Post by mikeu »

Hi,

I want to build a circuit that would enable me to control my Dish Network VIP211 from another room. The remote is infrared only.
I've done an internet search for circuits and one called the "Mark 5" looks like it might do the trick.
I can't find a U.S. source for the photodiode which is a Siemens SFH2030F (with daylight filter).
Does anyone have experience with controlling this receiver with a homebrew circuit and/or an available sub for the photodiode?
Anything unusual about this particular remote control? Is it 115 khz modulation?

Thanks,
Mike

This seems to be a suitable alternative that is available in the US, Mouser Elec - QSD2030F

Hi,

If you are going to build your own home made extender my suggestion would be to not actually buy
a photo diode or pin diode, but to buy one of those modules that convert IR pulses of light into
a logic signal. They have a built in amplifier and they detect pretty well.
I think you would look up "IR receiver module" to find one. They come in a lot of types,
so you would need to find out the transmission frequency first i think.
For the transmitter you would use a suitable IR LED of course.
LEDs vs Bulbs, LEDs are winning.

Hi,

Just wanted to get back to the folks on the forum.
I finally got all the parts to build the Mark 5 ir range extender shown here.
http://www.zen22142.zen.co.uk/Circuits/ ... irext5.htm
Thanks to the person that recommended the Mouser part for the IR phototransistor.
I've been using the circuit for about a day now with 25 feet of wire to the external ir leds.
No problem in using it with the Dish Network VIP 211 remote!

Thanks again!

Mike
