low voltage foto cell

Post by dacflyer »

anyone have a scematic to share ? i am using low voltage lights ( LED's ) running off of batteries
and only need them on at night. i can only find high voltage foto cells ( 120v. )
i need a solid state low power consumption foto cell that will work off of 12v.
if anyone can reply with a schematic i whould be greatful... thanx

A cad cell and one transistor is all you need, a low voltage [3-5v] relay is also used with a cad or solar cell. Ill see If I have anything pre written, or draw up a simple one in the near future.
You can wire a solar charger to hold open the relay circuit and charge the batteries... and when the solar cell stops charging the battery, It also stops powering the relay, ... collapsing the relay and starting the light circuit.

ok, i am still looking for a dc fotp cell here,,
whould like it to be small descreet and of the 2-3 wire type that cam be
(2 wire ) be wired in series or
(3 wire )( +/-/load ) solid state,,scr or transistor
with dusk adjustment.. load will be less than
1 amp.total..
using it for solar project.. must use little power as possible,,,
thanx

If I understand what your after, go to radioshack, pick up a pack of cadmium sulfide (CdS) photocells - five for about $3. You get two big ones and three small ones.
