Deal Extreme, or "Extremely Slow Deals" ?

Post by MrAl »

Hello,

I am having a problem with Deal Extreme in that the order was placed over 10 days ago
and still no indication of shipment on the order tracking page.

Anyone have any idea what is taking so long for them to ship?
They already got the money back on 07/08/2009 so they have already been paid!

My order, although it was wrong, came in about 2 weeks. Hong Kong mail to US Mail takes awhile.
Hope your order arrives soon and correctly MrAl!

Hi John,

Oh, sorry to hear that too. Can you return it for the right item?
Did you have problems contacting them like i did?

What was it they actually sent you then, did you ever figure it out?

No word from them yet. Yes, I did go through the grueling "Wrong Item Received" procedure of theirs. First, you have to photograph the item received. Then you photo or scan the front of the package received. Then you scan the Back of the package received. And, if you exceed 2 Megs worth of combined photos size, you have to do it all over again to limit the total size of photos to under 2 Megs. And don't let the 600 second timer time out on you while you're doing all that, because then, you guessed it, you have to start all over again. Sadists.

I doubt if they want their cigarette thingies back. Look like a one dollar item. I'm certainly not paying for shipment back to HK.

BTW, did you look at the items they portend to sell? A red laser pointer, 200 mW, for $39 postpaid! Assuming they ship it, that is!

Is it the lenses that you're waiting for too MrAl?

I have never dealt with them - actually, I had never heard of them until this thread came up... Seems to me that "In Stock" doesn't always mean "In Stock" :

When I read reviews on a product or a seller, I always concentrate on the bad feedback first.

Hi,

I have several items 'coming' someday, in some century, maybe not this one.
I didnt see the laser, is it supposed to be a good one for that much money?

Yes, apparently something seems to have changed at Deal Extreme, im not sure when this happened
though. The web site says "1 to 3 days" to get items from suppliers, but i am told by other
DX users that it now takes two weeks! That's before it even gets packaged, which takes another
full day, and however long it takes to get to USA from good ol' Hong Kong.

I didnt realize it would take this long when i ordered, because the site says 1 to 3 days.
Also, they get paid right away from PayPal so they dont have to rush...they already have the
money. This is different than most other places work...where they dont charge your credit
card until after the stuff is shipped. DX has your money right away, so why rush right?
I am wondering now if that is why they only seem to allow payment via PayPal, and not the
credit card direct.

Their Customer Support tells me that there's "no need to return the wrong item", they will ship the lenses. Now comes the two week wait to see if they get it right this time.
I don't know about their laser pointer. I paid $200 for a 200 mW red from Wicked Lasers two years ago.
I have to doubt a $39 one would be the same now.
Sure is a lot of complaints about this outfit, thanks psycho! :)

Hi John,

I hope you get the right item this time, and if you do that will raise my confidence in them severalfold.
I would also like to hear how they work when you go to use them...would be interesting.

I dont know if they will ship that laser if it is really 200mw, because i think the US has imposed a
restriction now on laser imports, that they have to be 5mw or under. Have you ever heard of
this before?

From what I hear MrAl, they still do import high power lasers, although they are definitely non-compliant with the US Center for Devices and Radiological Hazards (CDRH).
Here's some info on the status:
http://www.laserpointersafety.com/rules ... ences.html
Kinda like buying fireworks through the mail or UPS- they'll ship them to you, although they may be illegal where you are. Get caught and you're still in trouble with the law.

I'm on my third order from DE. The first came in about a week, the second about three weeks. It's only been about 3 days this time, so we'll see :-)

Hi again,

John:
I had also read that the DX lasers are not as powerful as the spec's claim.
They even say this on their web site, to be cautious about the spec's.

Engineer:
That's good that you got your orders ok. How many items did you order
in that first order you talk about, and how many items in the second order?

I've never ordered from them and I get spam e-mail from them almost daily.
I don't care what they have, if I get this much spam without ordering wonder what'll be like if I actually do order something.

gerty:
I have never received any kind of email from Deal Extreme except to say that my order was received/shipped. Are you sure you didn't click some "add to email" link?

MrAl:
The second order was for some 1W white LEDs and optics and something else I don't remember. Can't remember what the first order was for. In fact, I can barely remember what I ordered this time! I should be too young for "senior moments" :-(

I should post pics of my current flashlight when I get it done! It's made with parts from DE.
