Naturally Valley Girl!

What do we expect from you?

Dodge, pretend, B.S., and hide.

What else can you give us here?

Nothing?

You pretend like your hurt or disappointed, stop setting your own rules, they suck!

You don’t have a clue as to how things actually work, your too busy with your tiny corner of “how it worksâ€

This book seems to cover the telephone system fairly completely:
"Principles of Electricity Applied to Telephone and Telegraph Work".

A scanned copy of this book can be downloaded from:
www.pmillett.com/tecnical_books_online.htm

Compared to this, the Radio Shack book that Chris referred to is about at the level of "My Little Golden Books".

Hybrid circuits for 2 wire to 4 wire conversion may have been used on the telephone system with the carbon microphone repeaters used around 1920 (before vacuum tube amplifiers became available). These were definitely unidirectional, and were probably not very well suited for the negative impedance repeaters used on 2 wire circuits.

Your predictability and guess work comes from the Ouija Board Philba.

Im sure Mr Radio Shack was out of your league.

Mimms used to hand draw his design on tech paper and Im sure that alone scared you away.

"My Little Golden Books" were designed for those who scare easy, anything over two hundred pages is a lot for some folks.

But then why only have one book on the subject, unless it scares you to read.

Some people just read the sports pages while communicating with the porcelain god, I prefer some thing more interesting with teeth.

"Im sure Mr Radio Shack was out of your league."

When I need to look up technical information, I usually find it in books published by McGraw-Hill, Wiley, Prentiss-Hall, Van Nostrand, and the ARRL. Radio Shack is certainly not in this league.

"Mimms used to hand draw his design on tech paper and Im sure that alone scared you away."

I've drawn schematics on grid paper for about 40 years. These would often be six to ten pages of "D" size. I never felt a single twinge of fear from the paper, even though I occaisionally got a paper cut from it.

"Some people just read the sports pages while communicating with the porcelain god, I prefer some thing more interesting with teeth."

I guess this means that Chris reads the comics page as well as the sports page.

""My Little Golden Books" were designed for those who scare easy, anything over two hundred pages is a lot for some folks."

There is no need for you to be frightened Chris. The "Little Golden Books" were usually about 30 pages, and this should be within your attention span.

As usual, you try so hard to recover your lost body parts, your responses are just a joke.

I have many books on many subjects, even ones written for you, like Radio Shack.

When dealing with the ignorant or those who refuse to learn, you always keep your options open.

Mimms, a laureate, a scholar, a genius,.... Did it in Long Hand.

[just for you]

If your soo smart, then lets digest your history, any time you want.

Im sure physics is your thing, Im sure instead of the comic book or sports pages, your porcelain god will reveal that you read a good copy of “physics today" each morning, or at the very least, Mc Graw Hill version of physics 101, [or later] for the more catered crowd?

Lets start with black bodies?

Or was light your subject?

Yes, very true; too bad you don't know how to read.

I'm so glad I came here for electronics discussion. I could not think of a better place to enjoy a unimpeded flow of ideas and knowledge.

This forum used to be that place. But for at least the last few days, every thread becomes a contest. Chests out, trying to be the bigger, smarter man. I know I'm not the smartest person here. I know there is a great deal of knowledge I could gain from almost every one of you. But it's a shame that every time a thread is started, it's ruined with insults and threats.

A while back someone posted the name of another forum where it was more tightly moderated. I'm going to search for that.

If I wanted this kind of interaction, I would go hang out with the high school kids.

Hi again,

As you can see guys the arguing *again* again isnt helping anyone
with anything at all.

Chris, i dont agree with the possibility that arguing back and forth
makes the forum more interesting. I have to admit though that it
is rather comical at times though, but here's the main idea behind
my disagreement...

Back in the 80's and i think 90's too there were plenty of talk shows
(they might still be around) and i really like to watch them because
they seemed to be bringing out some of the problems the guests
had and talking them over. That lasted for a few weeks, then i noticed
that as soon as the conversation started to come to a 'head' where
some (possibly profound) logical conclusion was about to be realized,
the host would quickly steer the bulk of the conversation back into an area
of controversy, thus killing any benefit anyone could gain from the show.
Because of this, i stopped watching them. The host just wanted everyone
to argue and get upset for the sake of 'good TV' if you will. It might
have been considered good TV, but it was worthless to me.
I dont see how this forum is becoming that much different than that now.
If it was just for entertainment, that would be a different story. But it's
supposed to be a technical forum where people can come and talk about
their circuits and problems and such.
I guess this is just my own opinion, but it seems that others feel the
same way too as noticed by the above post (the one just before mine)
and others like it.

One new idea comes to mind however, and that is to start a new
general topic heading (like General and Computers are now) and call
it 'Controversy' or some other name like that. This could be the place
for people to hash out their ideas and counter ideas as much as they
want to. Either that, or leave it to "General" and start "Technical Issues"
or something like that. Something should be done because the arguing
is pushing people away and that really bites. The forum should be
growing instead of shrinking. Any other ideas here?
LEDs vs Bulbs, LEDs are winning.

I agree with the last two posts, and apologize for allowing myself to get sucked into the last exchange with him. I'll do my best not to let it happen again. Regards,
Dave

Al, I'm just a broken record here but when some one continually insults, taunts and so on, they should be banned.

Yes, we can all take the high road but it only takes one person to react to the troll and the thread slides downhill. We know the troll won't change after multi thousand posts. Trolls get their fulfillment from the controversy. and, I can guarantee, there will always be someone to react to the troll. It's human nature.

You know the solution. Trolls should be banned. I think this is the only board that doesn't. This is why electro tech, sparkfun and others don't have this problem. Like I said before, until that happens, this board will be insignificant.

Thank you Philba, those are the names I was looking for. I was having a heck of a time searching posts for them.
