Hi posi,

It is moderated, but you have to realize that we all have our own opinions
and even if they are the more politically *correct* than some others that
doesnt mean they should be administered onto the board. In other words,
we dont try to judge the correctness or feasibility of a reply from anyone.
Call it freedom of speech if you will

Personally, i have found that it is usually better to admit that the
sun rotates around the earth than to argue indefinitely with someone
who, being less astronomically correct than current scientific knowledge,
states the same. It keeps the peace and it works, and there are some
people who will *never* be convinced that it is not true anyway.
The only exceptions to this rule is when human safety
is at risk, and all other cases seem to fall into "trying to be right just
for the sake of being right". We usually have to keep the general
context of what we are talking about here in mind...yes we want the
most correct answers we can find, but we also have to remember
that we are not building nuclear power plants here either.

It also ties into personal confidence. Be confident that your reply is
more accurate and let it go at that. If anyone doesnt agree, you can
submit further proof that yours is the more correct, or choose to simply
ignore the counter idea. Dont allow yourself to get pulled into a
never ending battle of who's right and who's wrong. This goes for
*anyone* who posts on any web site. There are people who just
like to argue anyway and they wont change their stand just for the
sake of the argument itself.

Hi again posi,

I like to stay neutral many times even when i clearly agree with one
side. I happen to believe that courtesy outweights righteousness.

I think you should email Mike and ask him directly.

This subject has come up before.

The only serious problem is Chris Smith.

He has the distinction of being the only person who has had a post deleted (as far as I know). This is certainly a dubious distinction.

The general feeling is that if he wants to make an ignorant jackass out of himself that it is too much trouble for a moderator to interfere. He is certainly doing a better than average job of it this time.

Even stupidity and ignorance is allowed here.

All of the detractors of reality are the only ones complaining, much like Anne Coulter, but lets face it, she and you don’t have a clue,...soo whats new.

Your ignorance is always welcome despite the fact that so far you have nothing to add..., [in these posts] and your still welcome here even with with you school yard crap.

Whoa, Im shaking, you want to beat me up?

True sign of a low IQ.

Last time I checked, chimps did this crap?

So now the question is learn, fight the others, or just B.S. your way.

First, others are way too nice to you and your ignorance, sorry, im not.

Second you can post your trash and no one cuts it off.

Third, if you really intend to stay here, I will kick you ignorant ass every time you open the pie hole with stupidity, and I will be civil, as much as possible unlike your repertoire.

So... stay and learn, pretend, or just go away, ... your choice.

AL, was a hell of a lot nicer than I can be considering your out standing ignorance, BUT, if you choose to learn,...I will give you all you need to know.

He has the distinction of being the only person who has had a post deleted (as far as I know). This is certainly a dubious distinction.

Please elaborate this fantasy?

Jack asses are formed by the ignorant, like your self, too lazy to find out out,... too ignorant to understand the english.

[yet they claim I dont understand? what a joke]

Any time you dont know the language , just ask, dont pretend.

Hi rshayes,

I think everyone has the right to their own opinion even if it is
a bit extreme (and im not pointing at anyone here either) as
long as it is not too objectional as far as language goes. If i
perhaps did not read a post that does not follow this model then
please PM me.

If you feel that strongly that someone in particular is doing something
that you clearly object to as being web site incorrect then maybe you
can send a PM to that person and try to talk it over to find out what
the problem is, or if you feel that it is so bad then perhaps you can
email or PM to Mike directly and talk to him about it.

If someone really did do something completely objectionable the
first step would be to talk to that person anyway, and i think banning
anyone should be the very last resort dont you?

Perhaps deleting the offending posts would help. If you see a post
that is bad please PM me.

Hi again,

When you guys are not arguing you all seem to have something
very good to contribute to this forum. I dont agree with everything
everyone says all the time either, and im sure no one does...that's
life.

Hello Mr. Al,

I am in favor of letting the current policy continue. There is an issue of free speech, which I would rather not see destroyed on account of Chris. Further, I think it would require too much of your or Bodgy's time to monitor the forum for the sake of one individual. I wouldn't even ask you to try.

R... like it or lump it.

Free speach means others will educate you even if you refuse.

Education cost 500 bucks a unit, so pay up or shut up.

Very very old news....

Mr. Al,

I am all for moderation being light and not stifling free interchange. However, I see this board as being unmoderated. I draw this from the fact that name calling threads have been allowed to persist and that that no one has ever been banned for a violation of the rules other than spammers. In fact, I'm not even sure anyone has even been warned though I could fully be wrong.

Let's look at an example board that has moderation: electro tech. While the moderation is fairly light, runaway threads get closed and abusers get banned. Not a lot but it keeps the focus on electronics and related issues rather than personality. I think it's no accident that it is a significantly larger and more robust forum. The recent rant and compressed air car threads would have been long ago closed. I would much prefer to see that level of moderation here. With out it, n&v forum will continue to be an also-ran board - people that want to discuss electronics mostly don't want to be the subject of verbal abuse, especially if it's unrelated to electronics.

I take little comfort that I was the target of the only deleted posting (I was called a racist name even though I'm not a member of that racial group). Had that happened on any other board, the poster would have been banned. This was not the first time that the poster used racial language. As it was, nothing would have happened to the offensive posting had I not reported it to the editors of N&V. To be clear, this was before there were any moderators.

Personally, N&V is way down on my list of forums due to the dynamic that exists here. Wading though bulldog determined defense of ludicrous opinions is simply not interesting to me. Trolling, baiting, racist remarks, name calling, character assassination should all be grounds for banning. If that happened, this board could become something worth spending time on.

Phil
