Called Radio Shack yesterday - wanted something local and quick. When will I ever learn? "Hello, Radio Shack, this is <garbled>". "Hi, my name is Dave and all I need is to check price and availability on a S-Video cable, something about oh, 20 foot length." "Yuh-huh, we got those here". "Great, what length is availiable close to 20', and how much is it?"... "Uh, we got bunches of them, all around $20.00." "Fantastic, I'll need to fill out a company invoice then <I'm lying now>, so can you give me the part number and exact price?"..... LONG PAUSE. "Uh, I guess I'll have to go look." I WAIT, AND WAIT... "Yes, we have some 6 foot ones for $XX.00". I get angry! "You SAID that you had 20 foot ones! How in the hell do I make a six foot cable stretch THAT far?" The reply I get, ..... "Uh, I just got here." I hung up. Have a great weekend,
Dave

RS
It only happened once but not to long ago I walked into RS , < you can't get 3 ' into that store without one of them on you > the salesman asked if he could help, I blirted out real quick " I need an A10K and a B100K, lol, < most of the time you get a strange look and once a girl looked me in the eye and said you need what ? > anyway the salesman said right over here and took me right to it.
One other occasion, I walked into RS and said Im looking for a JK Flipflop , the man actually said you will probably find them at K-Mart

Igor Stravinsky
I used to really dislike Radio Shack wanting a relationship with me by asking for my zip and so on so I started using fake names for everything. I thought the Fletch approach (the Chevy Chase movie) might be worthwhile so I started using Igor Stravinsky at Rat Shack and then it spread to Ted Nugent (CVS), Harry S Truman (grocery loyalty cards)...etc etc
It's always funny to see a coupon print out for John Cocktosen...... (it's Scotch/Romanian .. ).

Several years ago I walked into a Radio Shack and asked for a 741 OP amp. I got a blank stare. I asked "Where do you keep your op amps?" Another blank stare. Then I said "I need to buy an operational amplifier". The sales clerk got huffy and said "SIR- All of our amplifiers are operational".
I give up.

America's Technology Store
Remember the name/address crap to buy a battery. I always asked why they needed the information when all the flyers I got said 'resident'. Answer .. 'our computers dumped and we have to start over'. Typical.
Years ago I could buy a box full of 'returns' from a store manager for pennies on the hundreds, literally. I one time got several cases of their 'pro stereo' headphones that were all wired with 3 wire cords and a mono plug, telephones with missed solder connections and a ton of their infamous firemen's hats with reversed battery wires. It looks like they successfully migrated their production problems right up to the front counter.
Last time I was there I thought I was in toys-n--crap.
Come on back Lafayette Radio!

Hi,
I thought i was the only one who remembered Lafayette Radio.
I still have a small milliammeter i bought from them years and
years ago, i converted into a voltmeter, and i still use almost daily.
I hate to think of how long ago that was when i bought that thing though.
I road my bike something like 5 miles to get that meter and a few other
small parts.
