Phone Speaker

Post by jollyrgr »

I'm trying to track down a speaker for a cordless phone. The speaker is a "closed frame" type about one inch in diameter. (Just bigger than a US quarter, just smaller than a standard screw-on pop bottle cap. See picture below.) I can find open frame speakers but the way the handset is designed I cannot use one of those (cone would be crushed). I know about salvaging from dead phones. I'd like to find a web site with many parts and just order the speaker as an 'add on' to the list and buy other things.

Has anyone seen these on the surplus market from someone like Alltronics or All Electronics? I've tried these two sites and can't find the style I'm looking for. I can find a one inch speaker but not in the enclosed or "closed frame" style. I have verified that it is indeed the speaker that is bad as I can hook up a stereo speaker (three way w/ 15" woofer) and hear the phone across the room. With the speaker from the phone barely any audio. I've included the part number from the speaker itself even though I can't find anything on it. Not that I want or need that number, I just included all the information I had.

I know it is a long shot but I'd figure I'd post anyway. Thanks for viewing....

Is it actually a Dynamic Speaker e.g. Cone,
Magnet and Coil or a Piezo Element ?

If you can find another speaker to fit inside
the case you have, just rip out the old one and
replace it, use the same case.

Some headphones may be a similar in size.

The enclosed case may help the sound to be
projected forward, it may not be very loud
without it.

I found something quite similar on a modem card at a surplus store. It's about 3/16" thick metal, completely enclosed. notation says 16 ohm and nothing else. About the size of a 50 cent piece so it's bigger than you wanted. It makes ok sound, probably ok for a telephone speaker but definitely not hifi.
