Hey guys. Any body know what an SBS is? I know it stands for silicon bilateral switch, but what does it do? Dean, could you do an article on this one????? :-)

A 74HC4066 (a quad)has 4 switches that are turned on or off with a high or low signal. It can switches 5volts at 20 mA with nice form.

Take a look at this datasheet:<p>http://www.pwrx.com/pwrx/docs/bso8d.pdf<p>It has a description of the part, an equivalent circuit, and a schematic of a typical application.<p>Search http://www.google.com for "silicon bilateral switch" for more info.<p>Ron

Newguy/Bill:<p>On another post you had inquired to older types of devices and I thought all were covered but
I see the three URL’s I submitted left out this device, but the others were covered if you scrolled
thru the offerings on those sites. To cover the SBS go to :
http://www.4qdtec.com/putpr.html
Put this data with the data provided by Sir Ron and that shud help.
We are referring to the SILICON bilateral switch and its utilization, and not the
more common……at least nowadays……bilateral switch utilizing CMOS technology and
infinitely simpler in construction and finding its use in data switching, even on
up into the megglinghertz speeds.
My first dealings with the device was back in the early sixties On the state of the art Seeburg jukebox.
You pushed the buttons to select a song and data was entered into a ferrite bead memory matrix
the unit then searched for data as the carriage was moving to look for that record played. When the two
experienced coincidence, the SCS fired and braked the carriage and then the play mechanism was
initiated. Prior technology utilized a gas thyratron (2050) to do this….which was a big vacuum tube..
kluge, you might say a tube counterpart to a SCR.

Wow you guys certainly know your stuff. How about the SUS then.....anywho know much about that? I cant find the schmatic symbol anywhere.<p>Anybody know of any good thyristor books or resources?<p>[ November 25, 2002: Message edited by: newguy ]</p>

The SUS ..Silicon Unilateral Switch is just a Unidirectional drive device as
compared to the “Bilateral” device.
My only dealings has been with the 2N4988-90 series of devices and looks like
The only data I remember on them is at this Russkie site:
http://www.novgorod.net/~planeta/eng/ds/2n/2n4990.pdf
For schematic symbols and some variances as well as ‘lebenteen others ..check out:
http://www.geocities.com/electronicsweb ... r1igl.html
as well as all its other devices.
