Hey guys. Any body know what an SBS is? I know it stands for silicon bilateral switch, but what does it do? Dean, could you do an article on this one?????

A 74HC4066 (a quad)has 4 switches that are turned on or off with a high or low signal. It can switches 5volts at 20 mA with nice form.

We are referring to the SILICON bilateral switch and its utilization, and not the
more common……at least nowadays……bilateral switch utilizing CMOS technology and
infinitely simpler in construction and finding its use in data switching, even on
up into the megglinghertz speeds.
My first dealings with the device was back in the early sixties On the state of the art Seeburg jukebox.
You pushed the buttons to select a song and data was entered into a ferrite bead memory matrix
the unit then searched for data as the carriage was moving to look for that record played. When the two
experienced coincidence, the SCS fired and braked the carriage and then the play mechanism was
initiated. Prior technology utilized a gas thyratron (2050) to do this….which was a big vacuum tube..
kluge, you might say a tube counterpart to a SCR.

The SUS ..Silicon Unilateral Switch is just a Unidirectional drive device as
compared to the “Bilateral” device.
My only dealings has been with the 2N4988-90 series of devices and looks like
