game show device
game show device
I am a teacher. when I play "Jeopardy" with my kids there is always a fight over who answered first. I want a way for them to "buzz" in that will then lock out the other 3 teams so it is clear who was first. If this could be remote it would be even better but I can live with a little wire. HELP I can't figure out the configuration.

This question keeps coming up, so I posted this solution: http://www.geocities.com/russlk/whcfst.jpg
You have to copy an paste the URL because geocities does not allow links.
There are other, probably simpler solutions also.

PATTIFINN:
Since you mentioned “kids” possibly being involved in the units construction Here is another simpler viable alternative. It merely relies upon the latching action of a SCR to illuminate the “first” response contestants lamp and latch out the other contestants, until reset. Its design is oriented towards easily available components with a minimum of components and wiring involved….but is up to your tastes as to the degree of “dressing upward” involved. The bottom right corner picture even shows how to utilize two interlocked bipolar transistors to function as a SCR if you have trouble finding trhem or their cost …compared to xstrs which you probably have on hand already. Re: game show device
Here are some further thoughts. The June _Nuts and Volts_ issue just had a very simple circuit for doing this project. It is built around DPDT relays. If you would like this circuit email me and I will try to send it to you.
However, in the vein of Edd Whatley's idea using SCR's, Bill Bowden has archived a circuit which looks simpler than the one using relays. Furthermore, it may respond faster to contestant input. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepage ... #game1.gif
[ July 09, 2003: Message edited by: Joseph Meisenhelder ]
