Hall Effect Current Measuring Devices

Post by Will »

I need to obtain a couple of Hall Effct Current measuring devices - On which thread did I recently see a reference to available (Mousers ?) devices ? - I think the thread included a reference to a 4.0 mA signal current for 1000 amps ? Thanx for any reply

Possibly in the thread "magnetic sensor help" that is still convenient near the top of page 2 of the Topic list.

Thanks SS - I think I could have gotten the info from there OK but I discovered that where I saw the info was not on a threrad but in the last issue of N & V - It was/is a 1:1000 current transformer from Digikey - An Evasco ? or something like that - I am just about to order a couple

will, are you measuring ac or dc? a current transformer only works with AC.

If it is indeed a current transfomer you are looking for, AMVECO makes them for a wide range of primarys.
These are basically for 50/60 Hz operation. I have used these and they perform well. Digikey does sell them. Look on page 1510 or Go to their website p/n TE1005-ND.

Thanks guys - Amveco was the name I was trying to remember and yes ! I wanted the device for AC - I suspect that my refrigerator is staying on too long, using too much energy and costing me something of the order of $30/month - If this is true then I need to do something about it - like get a new one. So! I want to monitor the fridge currentby connecting it to my laptop. Would a Hall effect device measure both AC and DC current ?

Allegro Microsystems has an interesting 5-pin hall-effect chip that can handle up to 50A AC/DC with a proportional output operating at 5Vdc.<p>WS
