remote control protocol

Hello
I have a remote control which I want to "break". actualy, it belongs to my company, but for some reason we cannot get the protocol anywhere.
how can I break it? is there any universal protocol? any web site to go to?

Far too little information was supplied. E.G.... Type of remote? Brand or country of manufacture? Product type that remote is used with?, etc , etc.
The reason being was, that I actually once serviced an infrared remote being used with a T-shirt press.... also a printing press.......they performed a lot of machine altering functions too!
With no further info to rely upon at this time, an IR det diode and a triggered O-scope would certainly permit you to extract/copy the serially encoded pulse train info of each function.
If you needed a duplicate remote you could just get one of the learning type replacement remotes that permits you to place the two units head to head and the new unit stores each pulse train code function as you alternate between them one by one.<p>73's de Edd

Hi Chava.
An oscilloscope is all you need.
Without opening it, reading the [infrared] receiver output with an oscilloscope will give you the stream of zeroes and ones and pulse durations.
If you can open it and connect the oscilloscope to the [infrared led] transmitter, you will get the same result.
If you have a storage oscilloscope, each button pattern will be kept on screen to write them down more easily.

Hello all, and thank for replying<p>Its shurely IR, couse I know that an eye is been used to receive the data from it.
its a remote controler used to control Air Conditioning controlers.
also, I dont know the manufacturer but it is marked with "Model:LCDG2"
I searched for that name on the internet but found nothing...
I dont have an osciloscope with memory (in fact I dont have an osciloscope at all)
Is there any standard protocol for those devices?

Do you know if the unit is of AMERICAN manufacture. If so we can trace down its source of manufacture by either UL identifier reference number on the unit or if it has any RF radiation involved a FCC ID number would have been posted on the main unit also.<p>And,if this unit JUST happens to be a YORK unit, you just might hop on over to Thailand and and while you are there drive down fron Bangkok and check out:

I do have an osciloscope with memory (also at work) but it did not succeeded to catch the signal
