key switch

i would like to make a computer interface for a pro 39 scanner the problem is there is a key switch i think it's 5 by 8 but is there a way to
do it with solid state driven from logic level
signal's also that won't load down the scanning circuitry of the key board

The scope of doing a modification is interesting concider the keypad, display, audio, squelch and volume of later models are digitally controlled so from a design point major overhaul.<p>I wondered if anyone put a serial port on a late model car radios from a disposable car it could'nt it be modified to integrate to a pro 39?
