running a vfd on single phase

Im trying to get my vfd to run on single phase.
the drive is rated for 380vac/460vac The company
told me I could use single phase if I derate the drive by 50%, which is fine because I only need 2 hp from a 5 hp drive. how do I get 308vac or 460vac
from my 120vac outlet. Is there a transformer
I could get?

How many input wires do you have?

Is your motor a brush type?

Yes, and keep in mind that 120 VAC can be lethal, but 480 VAC almost certainly is a killer.

1 or 3 phase 1 phase can mean 240/220/208/277 phase to phase and not always phase to neutral. i think u can find a transformer 120 to 480 but not sure big enough to support 2 horsepower but a 220/240 to 480 would be a better way to go, just be sure what 1 phase is to the drive

What is your motor voltage, we need to know that first. Remember that single phase capacitor motors will not operate off of VFDs. Most likely you will need a 220 3 phase motor and a 5 hp 220 VFD.
