Auto Audio from the past Concord HPL 130

Post by frhrwa »

Anyone familiar with the Concord HPL-130 car stereo? I have one that I originally installed back in the 70's and of course don't have the installation book any longer.. I notice it has an AUX, but can't figure if its to plug in something like a CD player or ? can't find a place to INPUT? it has low impedance output rca's, but no plug for an input.. any clues? thanks..

That Radio was manufactured some where between 1982-1983.

I'm finding Service Manuals for it.
But not for free. :(

http://www.agtannenbaum.com

http://www.radioera.com/c-manuals.htm

http://www.stereomanuals.com/man/rep/concord/

Here's an old advertisement for your radio.
It includes some of the spec's, and Concords Phone & address.
{It's a PDF File.}
http://www.derekspratt.com/PDFs/Automot ... 201982.pdf
If that Phone Number is still good.
I'd give them a call, and ask if you get a copy of the operators manual.
And have them send it to you vie E-mail.

Sorry, I can't be of more help.

Why don't you go and post your question over on http://www.audiokarma.org/forums.
They seem to have a lot more Audiophile Fanatics than here.
So, you might have a better chance of finding some one there.
That would have a wiring hook up diagram for the radio.

Ok,
Let's not get nasty now.

I did another search, and turned up some one in Canada.
Who has got that radio, and the 70 watt amplifiers that go with it.
{Damn it I can't find the site now!}

Well this would indicate that the radio is just a front-end.
It has no speaker outputs.
Or it may only have the Front Right & Left speaker channels.
The RCA low impedance outputs go to the 70 watt amplifier inputs.
The amplifier drives the Rear Right & Left speaker channels.
The AUX Jacks are there two? or just one?
If there are two.
Then I would say they are for connecting a CD-Player.
One only, possibly for a center amplifier for a Sub-Woofer.

A lot of this is just guess work.
Everyone did these modular stereo systems a bit different back then.
Can you post a digital picture of the connectors?
That would help.

WOW! flashback city. I had one of those in my dash a long time ago in a galaxy far-far away. :) I had a stand-alone SONY CD player mounted in the overhead in my van. The AUX on the concord is activated by the button the front panel labeled "AUX" and an LED indicator would come on to let you know it was piping the AUX through the outputs.

In fact, the PDF link posted by "Janitor Tzap", you can see the "AUX" button on the front panel and the aux input light seems to be lit in that photo. The really scary part is I got rid of my Concord unit about 4 weeks ago in a big garage sale. I found it sitting in the bottom of a box with a bunch of other car-stereo cast off from over the years. I think I got a buck for it.

When you post your next reply use the...

That's the easiest way.
Try too get good shots of the wiring.
So, you can make out all the colors on the wires.
Then we can begin working out what goes where.:)

I did find a site that carries just wiring diagrams.
They charge $7.00 for them.

I have a Concord AM/FM/Tape player... Here somewhere. I don't remeber the model number. It sounded great. Best FM reciever / tuner I ever heard. Sad part is the tape head died years ago. The radio still worked.

 Great, if you can find it.
Check the model number.
If it's one of the HPL series, the wiring should be close to what frhrwa has. :)

I found it. It's an HPL-118.

It has 2 dual RCA leads dangling out. I used 1 pair of them to send the audio to my Fozgate power amp. I don't see a switch for an aux input on it. The built in amps were about 12 Watts/channel, I think.

The main knobs were volume & treble, tuning & bass. Balance is a small seperate knob. No front/back fader.

There are 4 wires for the 2 speaker outputs.

There are 4 wires for power, GND, lights, memory (actually tape eject) since the tuner is analog.

Excellent! Dave :D

Colors!
We need the colors of the wires now!
GND {Black}
Main AMP Power {Red&black} I think.
Power Ant {Yellow}I think.
Hey! I'm going from memory here!
