Maybe this is a time when British English and American English don't quite mesh.
To me Knock off means stolen and probably wouldn't be something I'd want to quite share with the rest of the board. Mind you I can see how it would also mean cheap!
Bit like flog; to me, flog is to sell something cheap possibly stolen, here in Australia it only means stolen.
bodgy

Holy lord... If I was gonna deal stolen things, I'd at least do it right and sell genuine name brand...
:D

Knockoff, It looks like a dewalt drill, but doesn't act like it..
It's just a cheap version of the best drill, Not a  stolen  drill!

See how easy it is to be under a misaprehension (there's a joke there somewhere) even when speaking the same language.
Wars have been started over less!

You could put two batteries in paralell I suppose to get increased battery life.
Are these Harbour Freight (HF) by any chance? If so they are probably okay for ocassional use, or you can treat them as disposables. Not really professional grade of course, but their price is pretty good. I shop at HF quite a bit.
The DeWalt name was bought by Black & Decker BTW, in an attempt to recover from a bad reputation for cheap power tools. DeWalt tools are Black & Decker, so don't assume that they are always "professional grade" just because of the name and the yellow and black color scheme.
[ April 27, 2002: Message edited by: Gary ]

So? MTD bought the original International Harvester "Cub Cadet" brand. That's like adding Mercedes models to the Plymouth stable.
Dean

In american english, flog just means to hit repeatedly.
Heard a rumor today, that in english english, "keep your pecker up" means to keep a good attitude and your head held high. In america, of course, it means something else.
Is this true?

'Smoke a fag' means something entirely different on either side of the pond.

Yeah. No redeeming value in doing smoking either meaning of the word IMHO. The term "smoking" having further special meanings of course.
Pardon me, I have to spend a penny.

DeWalt 18V motors cost about $40
The transmission ass'y and the clutch ass'y of your knockoffs could also be inferior.
Also, when you change motors, you have to make sure the motors pinion matches the transmission.
you could try to remove the pinion from the old and new motors and replace the new one with the old, but I doubt you could do it without bending the shaft.
Don't know if this helps.
I used to be a TV/VCR tech but have been repairing power tools for the last 9 months.
