RadioShack Recalls Power Supplies

Post by VernGraner »

RadioShack has recalled 13.8V DC power supply units due to electrocution and fire hazard. RadioShack says the power supplies are incorrectly wired and
pose a threat.

The affected units have catalog numbers 22-507 and 22-508, with date codes from 08A04 through 01A08. Here are photos of the units:

Affected customers should unplug the power supply units at once and take them to any RadioShack store.

For more info call 1-800-843-7422 or go to http://www.radioshack.com/recall

As many of these are used with Halloween projects (i.e. running wiper motors etc.) I thought this would be a good place to get the word out.

Any word on what was done incorrectly?

Is this a low-tech transformer rectifier type or something
more sophisticated (DC regulator or SMPS, perhaps)?

There have been previous recalls of AC appliances
with single-winding power transformers (autotransformer)
presumably to save cost.

In China there appears to be no concern that the
DC output was directly connected to the AC input!

Go there and see for yourself. Their motivation is quite
different from your guess. More like what the USA was
a century ago (although I wasn't here to see it).

This has hurt your reputation with me. The link is not
only offensive but it has no place in this discussion.

Perhaps you (and few other ignorant forum members)
should go to China (or any other country, for that matter)
and check it out for yourself.

What's next? I'm sure these are the very same people
that will be complaining when the United States slips
further from power and prestige and American citizens
loose more rights, freedoms, and wealth (spending power).

This is my adopted home, but apparently the folks
born here don't care enough to look after it. Pity.
