can't access nutsvolts online user id,password won't work

Post by Timothy Rasch »

Hi ,how do I verify if my user id [name] and password are correct on Nuts/Volts?. It only works in this forum for some reason. It doesn't seem to work at all for the downloads. I also put the Id number from the magazine label and the password and that doesn't work either.
Help!!! please!!! would be appreciated . Also I did not receive the October issue yet . Has anyone had similar problems?

If you have a subscription to either Nuts and Volts or to
Servo magazine you can access the issues on-line
with the unique ID and password given to you.

To post to this forum you use a different ID and
password that you selected (which you obviously
have correct).

Sounds like you should call the publisher between
5am and 5pm PST.

I just tried to access the Nuts and Volts digital download
from a web browser and got this error:

Use Limit Exceeded.

I just clicked on the link in the e-mail, and it opened right up. I've never used a user name/password.

Of course I usually only look at a particular month once then wait for paper. (After hours at a PC at work, and a couple more at home, I prefer a paper magazine and sofa!)

Sorry I can't be more help, just repeat contact N&V subscriptions.

Cheers,

I know that when the accounts are initailly setup, you use your subscription ID (NVxxxx...) and your Zipcode.

I got that limit exceeded message last month. Just call them and they can reset it. I still don't know why I got it because I hadn't downloaded the issue yet.

Agreed. I found that even if I got booted out of the www
site I could still use the embedded link in the email as you
suggested.

Hmm.
Good to see that I'm not the only one "between a rock and
a hard" place when it comes to reading materials.

I enjoy the on-line edition for spontaneity, but the interface
is a bit clumbsy - I have to work at reading from page to page.
However, the embedded links are great!

I also noticed that the new issue (Nov 2008) has a pop up
You Tube video of the PIC-mas Christmas lights novelty.
Now you can't do that in a print magazine!

On the other hand the print magazine is very low tech,
you can read it just about anywhere there's available light,
and it doesn't have to boot up or be turned off during a
runway taxi or other travel reading interruptions.

My bad. I just discovered that I'd left the browser
window pointing to the magazine's secure pages
on my work PC. That would explain why I got the
previously noted error on my home PC.

I can get back in to the magazine issue now.

Does anyone know how to cut n paste from the
on-line issue, to capture text to another document?
(I usually carry a single page of tech forum questions
with me - I enjoy answering them during down time
at the salt mine). Currently I have to do it with a
screen snapshot tool and save them as images.

Here's an email from the service company
supporting the on-line magazine:
Texterity email wrote:Please refresh your browser before you try the link. You should be all set.

The message, "You have exceeded your accepted usage for this magazine"
indicates that you have reached the maximum number of cookies allowed on your account.
This is a technical issue that Texterity can easily resolve. To provide you with
some understanding of the issue, this occurs if you forwarded the magazine onto

the magazine contains copyrighted material, all publishers place limits on the access.
I have 'cleared' your account and you should be all set.

Bigglez,

I've just checked out the situation with the on-line edition in .PDF format.
The reason you cannot select the text is because the image on screen is
just that - an image. You can right-click and select Save Picture As to
save the whole page, thereby skipping a few steps (fom the screen
capture software). OR, if you want to paste into a document, just
right-click and select Copy to place the image in the clipboard, yada yada
yada...

Conversely, if you download the file as a .PDF (via the download button in
the top bar of the on-line version) and open it up using the standard
Adobe PDF Reader, you will be able to select just the text, as you
normally can once the select tool has been chosen.

Either way, you should be able to get your info easily.

BTW, I posted this info in another thread, but I will post it here also.
Within the web address is the date of the edition, i.e.:
http://nutsvolts.texterity.com/nutsvolts/200811/
where the 200811 is the November 2008 edition. Should you need to find
an earlier edition, just change the date similarly, say, 200706 for the June
2007 edition.

Hope this info helps.

Understandable - it is copyrighted material.

The downloaded PDF is locked - I was unable to use
the Adobe PDF text capture tools to isolate an
excerpt of text.

...interesting, I just highlighted, copied and pasted from the Nov 2008
PDF download...

?A conspiracy maybe??? :???:

Not sure why your's is locked and mine isn't. I'd offer more suggestions,
but they would entail downloads and you already have a working solution.
Poke around Adobe Reader's settings to see what's allowed. You might be
able to change something somewhere.

Okay, my bad. I just did a copy/paste to Word
as expected.

Except I'm on a different PC and now I'll have
to compare the two installs of Adobe Acrobat 8.0.

username password won't work!!!

Post by ronsii »

Mine is a similar problem to the original poster except all I want to do is log on to renew my subscription. I have tried everything I can think of and all I get is the same message "Sorry, your UserID and password combination can not be found.
Please verify your UserID and password combination and try again."

I have tried in all 9 digits of the username 6 digits, 5 digits for the password, added the +4 and every other combo I can think of.....
Has anyone else run in to this problem before? is there a fix? or do I just not renew by online? or maybe I should ask has anyone ever renewed by online means before?

Thanks for any info, RonSII
