Marking Threads As Solved

Would anyone else like to see solved or answered questions marked as solved or answered so you know you can skip by it and not waste time answering a post that needs no answer?

Hi there,

Im not too sure about this because many times even after a question
has been answered other people chime in with other ideas which
sometimes helps too. Sometimes simpler, sometimes just different
but also interesting to read about.

It would also be good if those message threads could be added to a new forum (copied, not moved), so we could have a sort of encylopedia of questions and answers.

Oh yeah, interesting idea. A place where questions could be archived
especially those that are repeatedly asked by several members.

I would agree too that, on the "Up For Grabs" Forum as well.

Craig's idea sound good too.
Archived questions of the most repeatedly asked by several members.
Would be great for a reference to direct people too.
When they have similar questions.

An "answered" mark would be nice; some way of indicating at what point it was answered would be better, especially if clicking on the icon would bring you to the first answer after "the" answer.

A FAQ section would be good, and the first entry to each thread could be links to reference threads, rather that copies of that thread (in case additions to the thread are made).

So the first thread would have something like:

Subject: How to do [something]

And the body would have:

and if it was popular, additional links:
http://forum.servomagazine.com/viewtopi ... highlight=
http://forum.servomagazine.com/viewtopi ... highlight=

Who would mark the question as answered? The one who originated the topic? A moderator?

craigs list is cool, but i hate that you can never delete anything in your account as far as ads that you have in your list, the list goes on forever.....

another thing i'd like to see is a "JUMP TO" tag at the top of the forum
many times when i am in the forum list and want to jump to another topic, i have to scroll all the way to bottom of the screen, to pick another catagory..

Dac,

Next time you want to go to the top or bottom of a page, try using the
"Home" or "End" keys. They will instantly take you to the top and bottom
of the page, respectively. If it doesn't, make sure you have clicked on
the main body of the page, then press either key.

As for the "Jump To", there is navigation at the top and bottom of the
screen. The top has the "directory" of where you are, for example:
T&L Publications Forum Index - > General
is where we are right now, and both of those names are links to their
individual directory. At the bottom is a "Jump To" box where you can
select a category to browse through, which you use frequently.

The only difference is that you have to take one more step when using
the top navigation, because you would have to go to the index, then
choose a particular forum. The plus to that is you get to find out which
forum has new posts so you don't waste time checking individual forums
when you don't have to.

But, it wouldn't take much to update the pages here to include the same
box at the top, just a copy and paste after the links to the directory would
be all that the site author would need to do. If they use CSS, or similar,
to set up the site, they would only need to do it once.

Another Thought!

There could be some 'aging' reference to the original, or last post. Maybe a flag to show that the thread's last post was over a certain time period, or the thread could be moved to another area. Some other forums have both 'Active' and 'Archive' sections.
A member recently added a post to a message thread that was 2 1/2 years old! Not to minimize the added post, but, was it still of value to the original poster? Possiby not!
