I'd like a low-cost way to broadcast the
output from my portable CD player from the
AM/FM radio speakers from my car.
There is a kit that does this for $40, but
it seems pretty overpriced.

Radio Shack sells one for $30 called the "irock! Wireless Music Adapter". It is their catalog number 12-2052. <p>There are others available as well. Most department stores have a car audio section with accessories and may carry this. Many well stocked truck stops have one version or another. Some plug into the lighter jack and have an adjustable tuning range. Others are inserted "in line" with the antenna. I have used several of these and as far as I'm concerned they are poor performers. Not because they do not work but because the drift. The RS device is a relatively new one and appears to be PLL rather than trim capacitor tuned and may work somewhat better.

Two days ago I bought a portable CD player with built-in transmitter for FM stereo reception in my classic car radio.
The whole thing was $55 at Wherehouse, that place they sell music CD's.
It transmits well, but skips. I do not know if MY unit is defective, I will have to return it/exchange it soon.
Their part number is 0258060220087.

Thanks all! I found a kit at a mail-order
spot, JAMECO ELECTRONICS, that sells a kit
for $12.95. Since, I work a few miles away,
I'll just order it on "will call" and save myself
the shipping charge.
