Pi crop

Post by Sambuchi »

Another crop circle has appeared in the English countryside — and this one's clearly been made by someone, or something, that understands math.

But an electrical engineer from North Carolina — described by the London newspapers as a "retired astrophysicist" — figured out that it was an abstract representation of pi

It looks more like a sextant design the way the lines from the center angle and correlate. Not intended for making a sextant but to show a navigational coordinate of some kind.

For pi, I see:

The 3 as 3/10 of a 360 degree clockwise rotation. (Aliens must think clockwise is forward too, and use base 10 arithmetic. What a coincidence! I bet they have 10 fingers to count on too.)
Then the decimal point is a dot on the grass. Wow! A dot for a decimal point! They must be humanoid!

Then 14159265. Then I see the rest is rounded off to 4....with three circles following. Has anyone decoded what the 3 circles mean?

Edit: I just discovered that the windows calculator has pi value after all. Just press the P key.......

Wouldn't they stand for "..." just as you used it. (or were you being sarcastic)

Could be, but I wonder why the three tiny trailing circles have different sizes.
