OSD Boards

Post by Sambuchi »

Hello all..

Few months back I was talking to a few people here about making an OSD [On Screen Display] project. Well... I made a test setup back then and it worked pretty good. I went ahead and made a bunch of boards and I am now in the testing phase. When I am done I will have extras and will be happy to see them get used. Maybe get some feedback. There will be a serial interface to this board where a user will hook up a RS232 cable. I will provide the set of instructions to get it to work... The video overlay will be on a NTSC video signal.

Any-who :D

I will be updating info here.

If you would like to play with one of these boards or have a suggestion please do so here.

Kindly clarify what the board does. Does it add video or data to an existing NTSC video signal, or does it generate NTSC video from the computer?
A rolling video would be helpful!
Call me curious!

Hello Tony.

Been interested into that for an specific application, to add text from a GPS onto NTSC for seafloor video-frame mapping purposes. The related sites I have in my favorites folder are dumped below, do not take them as abuse, but some reference for you as competitors.

Contacted one of them and was unable to put smaller text on the screen as to reduce the area of image blocking ¿?. My interest is only Latitude, Long, Heading in a single line at the bottom of the frame.

Enjoy:

And to evaluate, I bought the frame capturer 'Snappy' described here:

Would your thing work for my requierements ? The ultimate goal, I would prefer to feed NTSC video and GPS data to a USB port, no rs232serial; and save overlayed frames on hard drive in light overlapping. Later, 'glue' them in a 'seascape' sort of Google map.

If dreaming is allowed, no Windows, thanks, but Linux.
Yes, now you have a candidate to evaluate/play with your project.

For now, I have the text overlay working with a existing NTSC video stream. Later on in the project I would like to add the feature that the board can generate its own NTSC video stream.. but that will obviously require a lot more work. I have the scrolling text working right now. :D adding features like these are great and easy for me to do now... if you can think of it I would like to try to implement it.

Thats some good research Miguel. The "viennawireless" looks similar to what I am outputting.

How many characters are you talking about... is scrolling text an option?

I will provide the overlay... there are other products that can do this. I dont think this will be a one stop solution for you. We will see what I can come up with here... but I would like to make this thing as generic and cheap as possible. In the end, make a widget that will be priced < $45.00

----->As many characters as needed to display ONLY Lon, Lat, Head and nothing else (for my case) in small enough transparency font at the bottomost of frame. No scrolling as want it printable.

I will provide the overlay... there are other products that can do this.
