Hey Al, try Allied...

Post by zap101 »

Hey Mr Al,
I have never heard of the company that you used but I do like the following...Mouser www.mouser.com
and Allied www.alliedelec.com
neither of these have a minimum and they both ship really fast...

P.S
If you use Mouser they continually send you these huge catalogs, they should have one catalog and then send pamphlets with new items and price changes...Would save the Co. money...

The mention of Allied Electronics took me back some 30 years when Allied was a Giant in the electronics supply industry. The most amazing event that took place then was when a "potlicker Store" by the name of Radio Shack actually bought them out. Can it be that this is the original Allied resurfaced to a Major supplier once More?

small orders A-OK

Post by zap101 »

Hey Al,
yeah they cater to smaller orders, just like mouser...they seem to have better prices on OBSOLETE items...

P.S
Robert, now that you mention it I do remember Allied from about a hundred years ago...Ill ask my rep if this is the same, or some offshoot?
I didnt know that Radio Crap had bought them out...Speaking of which, have they gone downhill.I used to get most CMOS chips. PLLs even voice mod chips...NOW you ask the idiot behind the counter a question and he's like "Scary electricity burns the monkeys" you wanna I sell you this pretty phone?

LOL, I get a 6 pack of DigiKey catalogs every other month and we only have 3 people who use them. We also get 4 mousers and 2 allieds and a bunch of others. All told, about a 4-5 foot stack every 60 days or so. I could use more McMaster-Carr though

I've taken to just tearing out the pages with the parts I need and stapling them along with my req to purchasing. Another catalog shows up before I need that page again.

For whatever reason, Mouser sends me two at the same time. Add to this one digikey and One newark all them coming every 3 months. Why not just a current flyer instead?
PS- My trash collector hates me as these are no featherweight catologs

Yeah, these catalogs are ridiculous.

Is there a way to get them to just NOT send them any more?

They really should have a checkbox on their online ordering form:

[X] Please send me ENORMOUS PHONE BOOK SIZED CATALOG four times a year.

that you can uncheck before issuing your order.

Or maybe one like:

[ ] Check this to receive pounds and pounds of paper that you'll likely never use for anything.

I use Newark Electronics (They dropped the "In One") and Digi-Key for small orders, but also use Garrett Electronics quite a bit for small quantities as well. Garrett mostly has surface mount stuff... but they have a great selection that is usually stocked, or else low lead times.

Hi again,

I've used Newark in the past and they arent too bad, except one time
they wanted to bill me twice for shipping because get this, one transistor
(TO220 size) could not be shipped with the rest of the order so they
wanted to bill me another 7 dollars just to send that one part after
all the rest had already gotten here the week before.

As far as Allied and no catalog, WHAT? You mean i wouldnt get those
huge clumps of wood anymore? Gee, what on earth would i do without
those giant catalogs that i never open? My local recycling center would
go out of business
