It's funny but it might work, unless we have an evil human out
there :)
I have that on my blog. It asks simple math questions. I still get some spam though. what is (ten - three) + four

Well, don't have a maths question, have a philosophical one, such as - the the question is 100 what is the answer.

Problem is though, you need to have a nerdy precosious, de Bono type person to work out the answer.

......0.564332647983100331273602710112622???

Id use the personal check in system?

Real people check, from the shady sites. [small and doable]

Hey hey, infinity is the answer. Hence an infinite number of numbers equals 100.

Too bad its hard to track down who does this... if you think about it, people who spam this board are actually lowering its value, and under US law (and other countries), this is illegal and known as "Trespass to chattels."

So, Michael puts a disclaimer on the board stating that spam is off-topic, then he can sue the spammers.

Ok, I can dream can't I? On another note, if you could give some information about the IPs of the spammers, maybe there's method that can be discovered to figure out who is doing it. If it is consistently coming from open relays, then maybe a simple check of the sorbs.net database on registration would solve the problem. PHP can do dns lookups easily and phpbb is open source...

If the user is accessing the site via a known open-proxy, 98% chance they're a spammer. So, delay the verification e-mail by 8 hours or something that will make it easier to pick on someone else.

Actually, this is a good idea and I should implement this on my website...

Spam and trash them back in spades.

Every one send them nothing but a nasty note or letter, visit their web sites and trash them heavily, and only then will a moron have a chance to GET IT especially if a nasty return note is left at each incidence.

Make the returns in the 100s if not 1000s. One a piece.
