deanp- this is right off the ebay webpage-
"Get ready to go with Micro RC Racer Pen! Infra-Red remote controlled micro car lets you race against your friends without interference. "
Looks IR to me, but do let us know what you get.

I got the RC car/pens I ordered today. They are very cool. I believe they are IR (they have an LED that isn't visible on the transmitter). But they are operate in a surprisingly non-line-of-sight manner. If I hold the transmitter on the opposite side of my body from the tiny car, it won't operate. But I can hold my hand between the transmitter and the car and it will still work - which surprised me.

The bad news is that I took the transmitter apart, and while it could be packaged smaller, it is nowhere near small enough to wear inconspicuously on my hand. Bummer :-(.

Cool technology though - and I think it might be quite useful for other projects.

If anyone has any suggestions about a REALLY small transmitter, I'll all ears.

Thanks!

given you want only a foot or so of range it is easy technically.
I can't think of an off the shelf product gizmo though.
